Taliban, Uzbek officials discuss security for key projects

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A Talibaninfo-icon delegation has discussed security for major projects with senior Uzbek government officials, a spokesman for the insurgent movement said on Sunday.

Led by Sher Muhammad Abbas Stanikzai, head of Taliban’s political office in Qatar, the team visited Uzbekistan from August 6 to 10 in response to a formal invitation from Tashkent.

A statement from the Taliban spokesman said the visiting delegation met Foreign Minister Abdul Aziz Kamilov and the Uzbek president’s special representative for Afghanistaninfo-icon Ismatulla Irgashev.

The two sides discussed current and future projects such as security for a proposed railroad and power transmission lines. Views were exchanged on withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan.
