KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) chief has gone to a foreign country along with his family after his organization ousted 35 individuals from the final list of candidates in the Oct 20 parliamentary elections, a well-placed source said Wednesday.

The government source, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the IECC head and his family had left Afghanistaninfo-icon for a foreign country.

He did not provide details as to when and why the IECC head went abroad and when he will come back.

Some disqualified candidates claim many IECinfo-icon commissioners had flown outside the country along with families and no one is present to respond to their questions.

The IECC announced the list of disqualified persons four days ago, triggering protests by supporters of the ousted candidates in Kabul and provinces.

Earlier, Ali Raza Rohani, IECC spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Everyone should know that law is a standard and the decision of IECC regarding the issue is final and won’t be reconsidered.”

The disqualified candidates had been provided two days time to register their complaints against the IECC decision and all decisions in this regard had been finalized in provincial and central special commissions of IECC.

He made it clear the Independent Election Commission (IEC) has no authority to seek documents of the IECC because the source of scrutiny and identification was IECC not IEC.
