Tuition center attack draws widespread condemnation

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Wednesday’s deadly suicide attack on a tuition center in Kabul, in which 48 people were killed and 67 others wounded, drew widespread condemnation from across the worldinfo-icon. The Islamic State or Daesh has claimed responsibility for the latest in a series of such attacks against the Shiite community.

The attacker walked into the private tuition center in Dash-i-Barchi locality of Kabul on Wednesday afternoon and detonated his bomb belt, when classes were underway.

Police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai said the attack unfolded shortly after 4pm in the limits of 18th police district.

President Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the suicide attack and said the terrorists by attacking cultural and educational centers once again demonstrated their enmity with Islam and teachings of the holy Prophet (PBUH).

The Talibaninfo-icon have denied their involvement in the attack that targeted children taking extra classes to prepare for university entrance exams

Soon after the deadly attack, condemnations and condolences started pouring in. The US government strongly condemned the attack, saying it was appalling.  

“The US continues to stand with the government and people of Afghanistaninfo-icon and will continue to support their efforts to achieve peace and security in their country,” said tweeted the US Embassy in Kabul.

US and NATOinfo-icon forces commander in Afghanistan, Gen. John Nicholson also said the United States strongly condemned the attack in Kabul, in which many innocent young Afghans were killed. “There is no justification for such a cowardly act.”

Gen. Nicholson expressed deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the young Afghan students martyred and wounded in the horrific attack at the educational center.

Meanwhile, Pakistaninfo-icon Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday strongly condemned what he called terrorist attack in Kabul and expressed his condolence and sympathies with the Afghan government and Afghan people.
Imran Khan also expressed his deep grief and sorrow over loss of precious lives in the attack, PTI central
media department in a press release said. The prime minister in waiting also prayed for the early recovery of the injured.

“Pakistan has strongly condemned the terrorist attack at an educational institute in Kabul, which caused loss of precious human lives,” Foreign Office Spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal in a statement, terming the attack as inhuman and incomprehensible act of terrorism.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi strongly denounced the suicide terrorist attack in a Wednesday statement. Ghasemi sympathized with the Afghan government, nation and the survivors.

Also Turkey, Bahrain, the UAE, the UN and others condemned the attack.
