UNSC condemns Kabul bombing as a heinous act

Aug 16, 2018 - 14:55

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The UN Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday condemned the suicide bombing at an educationinfo-icon centre in Kabul as a heinous and cowardly act that killed 48 people and wounded more than 65 others.

Terrorism in all forms and manifestations constituted one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, the 15-member Council said in a statement after the Dasht-i-Barchi assault.

While expressing sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Afghanistaninfo-icon government, UNSC members wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

The UNSC stressed the need for holding perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of the acts of terrorism accountable and bringing them to justice. Iy urged all states to cooperate with the Afghan government.

Earlier on Wednesday, UN General Assembly President Miroslav Lajcak denounced the suicide bombing as unacceptable. The assembly continued to stand against terrorism and with Afghanistan, he added.

“Many of the victims were young people preparing for university entrance exams. Pursuing an education should not pose a risk to one's life,” Lajcak concluded.
