Peace deal can’t be struck behind closed doors: Ghani

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has asked media outlets to fully cooperate with his government on organising a substantive debate on issues of national interest, his office said on Saturday.

As part of consultative meetings with representatives from different segments of societyinfo-icon, the president had an interaction with the print and electronic media leaders on Saturday morning, said a statement from the Presidential Palace.

At the beginning of the meeting, media representatives shared their ideas and suggestions regarding the ceasefire with Talibaninfo-icon militants and reforms in security and civil services sectors.

The president welcomed proposals from representatives of media outlets, saying: “Peace could not be established behind closed doors. National and international consensus is part of it.”

Reforms in security and defence sector were being implemented and the process would continue, he added. The asked the media to help government achieve national consensus on issues of national importance.
