KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The European Union on Wednesday said the three-month conditional cease-fire proposed by President Ashraf Ghani “offers an invaluable chance for halting the on-going violence in Afghanistaninfo-icon.”

In a statement, the EU delegation in Kabul said all parties to the Afghanistan conflict should show the determination and political courage needed to respect the latest ceasefire offer.

The EU said a ceasefire respected by all would do justice to the desire of all Afghans for peace, as clearly shown during the previous ceasefire. The release of prisoners by the Talibaninfo-icon would also be an important step forward.

“The European Union believes in Afghan-led and Afghan-owned decisions, and is ready to support initiatives which may pave the way towards a peaceful Afghanistan.”

The EU said all stakeholders and partners, particularly regional ones, should unambiguously join the efforts in favour of peace and reconciliation.

The European Union also wished the Afghan people a peaceful Eid al-Adhainfo-icon.
