Aug 23, 2018 - 13:18

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Officials of the Afghan government may not take part in Russian meeting on Afghanistaninfo-icon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Thursday.

Foreign Affairs Spokesman Sibghatullah Ahmadi said every debate on Afghanistan should be Afghan led, owned and centric.

He said no country has the ability to push the Afghan peace process on its own and bring it to the conclusion without the leadership of Afghan government.

Earlier, the Russian foreign ministry stressed the Talibaninfo-icon representatives would take part in the negotiation.

Afghanistan national security advisor (NSA) Hanif Atmar on Wednesday called on Russia to exert pressure on the Taliban to arrive at the negotiating table.

Atmar met the Russian ambassador in Kabul, Alexander Mantytski and discussed with him the Afghanistan peace process and Kabul-Moscow relations, a statement from the NSA office said.

The statement quoted Mantytski as saying his country was ready to help the Afghanistan government make the peace process ‘a success.’
