Tajikistan bombs Afghan border area in Takhar province

Aug 27, 2018 - 11:35

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Tajikistan’s security forces have conducted an airstrike in the Darqad district of northern Takhar province, an official said on Monday.

Jawad Hijri, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News a clash took place between Talibaninfo-icon drug smugglers and Tajik border guards in the border area late on Sunday.

Two Tajik border policemen were killed in the clash, he said, adding the Tajik air force subsequently bombed the Jangal area of the district on Monday morning, killing two smugglers.

According to Jawad, the Jangal area has been under Taliban’s control over the years.

Police spokesman Khalil Aseer claimed six Taliban insurgents were killed and nine others wounded in strike. He blamed the Taliban for smuggling drugs into the neighbouring country.

The Tajik government and Taliban have not yet commented on the raid.
