KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) announced on Tuesday more than 9 million ballot papers would be printed for the upcoming Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon elections across the country barring southern Ghazni province.

The Wolesi Jirga (lower house of parliament) and district council elections were to be held on October 20. However, the district council election issue was referred to the National Security Council (NSC).

The IEC said the NSC was yet to notify it any decision of the district council elections. It means the district council and Wolesi Jirga polls could not be conducted simultaneously.

Flanked by a number of commissioners, IEC Chairman Abdul Badee Sayyad told a press conference the ballot papers would be printed based on the 35 separate electoral constituencies.

The constituencies include all provinces except Ghazni, Kochis and Hindus. The total number of voters was above nine million, he said, adding the panel had decided to print 9.9 million ballot papers.

International donors had not yet provided any information about the expenses on the printing of ballot papers to the commission, he concluded.
