KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Ireland have downed Afghanistaninfo-icon by three wickets in the second one-day international to level the three-match series at 1-1, an official said on Thursday. Tim Murtagh ripped through Afghanistan’s top order, capturing four wickets in the match played in Belfast on Wednesday, a spokesman for the cricket board said. Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News Murtagh bagged three wickets in a fiery opening spell, leaving the visitors struggling at 16 for 4 in nine overs. Opting to bat first, the Afghans posted a modest total of 182 for nine. A breezy fifty by Andrew Balbirnie saw Ireland cruising home with six overs to spare. Afghanistan won the T20 series 2-0 last week before romping home to a 29-run win in the first ODI on Monday. In the second ODI, skipper Asghar Afghan scored 39 runs before he was run out by Paul Stirling. Rahmat Shah made 32, and Najibullah Zadran 42. Rashid Khan, maintaining his class, took three for 37, but could not stop the opposition from chalking up a win. Mohammad Nabi secured two scalps. The decisive third ODI would be played at the same venue on Friday, said Hotak, who hoped the national side would clinch the series. mud
