Kabul, Beijing talk counter-terrorism cooperation

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A Chinese delegation has met National Security Advisor (NSA) Hamdullah Mohib and discussed a bilateral mechanism for security cooperation between the two countries.

Headed by Ching Koping, high commissioner on the war against terrorism and security affairs, the Chinese team called on Mohib in Kabul, said Qader Shah, head of the National Security Council’s strategic affairs.

Koping said the purpose of his delegation’s trip to Afghanistaninfo-icon was to enhance political, security and economic cooperation between the two countries.

He stressed the need for increased cooperation on combating terrorism in the Xinjiang region of China and Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.

He reiterated Beijing’s commitment to Afghanistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, development and promotion of democracy in the war-torn country.

 Mohib praised China’s political, economic and security cooperation with Afghanistan and briefed the visiting team on cross-border terrorism and activities of extremist groups.

Afghanistan was at the frontline of the war against terrorism and was fully committed to availing every opportunity for regional peace and eradication of the scourge, the advisor said.

Since the arrival of the Chinese delegation in Afghanistan, reports regarding the construction of a military base in Badakhshan province have been circulating. However, China has rejected such rumours.
