Noted Taiwanese writer denied visa for Afghanistan

Noted Taiwanese writer denied visa for Afghanistan

Aug 30, 2018 - 13:40

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A noted Taiwanese writer has been denied entry to Afghanistaninfo-icon on the grounds she did not have a no-objection certificate (NOC) from China.

Li Ang, also a renowned feminist, was refused a visa from Afghanistan’s embassy in Islamabad.  She is a 12-day tour of Pakistaninfo-icon and Afghanistan, the Central News Agency said.

Repeated phone calls and an email from Pajhwok Afghan News failed to draw any response from the embassy.

If Taiwanese citizens apply for a visa from Afghan embassies in Japan or South Korea, no NOC is required, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tapei said.

Li is a champion of Taiwan’s womeninfo-icon’s rights movement and has penned books, including The Butcher’s Wife.
