Scores of Taliban killed, wounded in nationwide operations

KANDAHAR CITY/QALAT (Pajhwok): At least 48 Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed and 23 others wounded during airstrikes and ground operations in different parts of the country, officials said on Saturday.

Capt. Ahmad Sadeq, spokesman for the 205thAtal Military corps in southern Kandahar province, told Pajhwok Afghan News the army conducted clearing operation in Anarbagh, Shalghi and Khamer villages of Miawand district on Friday night.

He said 24 insurgents were killed and 13 others wounded in the nighttime operations. Six vehicles and motorbikes were destroyed and some weapons seized by the soldiers, he added.

Elsewhere, at least 21 rebels were killed and 10 others wounded during an operation in Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, the spokesman for the 205thAtal Military Corps said.

Sadeq added four rebel hideouts and some explosives were also destroyed in the an airstrike.

Two commanders were among three insurgents killed late on Friday in an air raid by foreign troop in the Bari area of Qalat, the capital of southern Zabul province, the governor spokesman Gul Islam Seal said.

The Taliban have so far said nothing about the incidents
