KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Grand National Alliance (GNA) on Saturday stressed over the implementation of election reforms draft suggested by the political parties and alleged to have accessed documents that exposed government’s rigging efforts for the upcoming polls.

The alliance showed thousands of fraud Tazkeras or ID papers to reporters that maintained the special stickers of the Independent Election Commission.

First Deputy Speaker and head of the GNA Humayon Humayon said the fraud Tazkeras belonged to 33 provinces of the country which had been collected with the support of people and workers of the IECinfo-icon.

He said the election related stickers had been attached on the Tazkeras at time when the holder of the Tazkera did not complete the required age to participate in election and some Tazkeras have no photograph of its owner.

He added some of the Tazkeras had been issued with the name of one person and photograph of another person.

He claimed the number of fraud Tazkeras collected by the alliance was around 100,000 which is a sample of fraud and rigging in upcoming polls.

The Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon elections are scheduled for October 28.

Last week, supporters and representatives of political parties have closed main roads in different parts of capital Kabul to press the government to accept their election-related demands.

The protesters say demands should be met ahead of the October 20 elections.

Demands

  • Allowing representatives of political parties to monitor the conduct of elections
  • Changing the current Single None-Transferrable Vote (SNTV) system to a transferable vote system.
  • The launch of a fresh voter registration through biometric system

Hundreds of supporters of political parties have blocked the roads in some areas of Kabul including Sara-i-Shamali, Public Health Square, and Banai Chock. The protestors say they would extend their protest to other parts of the central capital if their demands were ignored.

IEC Commissioner Syed Hafeezullah Hashami rejected involvement of IEC in the alleged rigging efforts and said some parties hitched negative propaganda against the election body which has nothing to do with the IEC.

He said the NGA could refer to the judiciary department to prove their claim is right.
