SHARANA (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen blew up three schools with bombs in the capital of southeastern Paktika province, affecting thousands of students, officials said Monday.

The schools dynamited include Hazrat Bilal high school, Jalal Bukhari and Khwajkhel schools in Sharana.

Abdul Hamid, the Hazrat Bilal high school principal, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Talibaninfo-icon militants had two days ago warned them against attending schools.

It was also two days ago when intelligence forces arrested the Taliban designated educationinfo-icon director along with a partner.

Hamid said the Taliban told them not to attend classes until their education director was released. He said the blasts completely destroyed windows and others parts of the schools.

Juma Gul, a guard of the school, told Pajhwok that it was around 12:00pm when armed militants came to the school and first snatched their mobile phones and then blew up the school’s building.

Meanwhile, provincial education director Mehrabuddin Shafaq also confirmed the incident and said if the Taliban were not involved, the rebels should identify those involved.

He said the Taliban militants had already warned the three schools and the incident deprived thousands of students of their education.
