Khost City roads need immediate repair: Residents

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Most parts of the roads inside this capital city of southeastern Khost province have damaged and need immediate reconstructioninfo-icon, residents and drivers said on Wednesday.

They criticized the Khost city municipality for what they said superficially repairing a few roads in order to deceive the public as most parts of the roads were in bad condition.

Fazal Rahim, 31, who owns a grocery and dried fruits shop near Spin Jumat (mosqueinfo-icon) in Khost city, was cleaning dust from his goods.

Rahim told Pajhwok Afghan News the road in front of his shop had seriously damaged.

He said he suffered from 1,000 to 5,000 afghanis loss everyday as a result of dust rising from the road.

“All roads of the city are broken. The beauty of the city depends on roads. I have to throw away heavy dust from my fruit and grocery shop because no one buys them,” he said.

Mohammadullah, 29, a driver in Khost city said the bad condition of roads had affected his earning.

He said he used to spend half of the money he earned on his car’s repairing after getting damaged every now and then to the broken roads.

“All roads of Khost city are damaged, so they damage our vehicles, we cannot reach our destination on time, I usually spend around 1,500 afghanis on my vehicle’s repair once a week,” he said.

A number of other residents of the province have similar complaints.

Meanwhile, Khost provincial council head, Kafil Raihan, also told Pajhwok that except two roads, all other sub-roads of Khost city had been damaged and as a result residents faced great trouble.

He asked the Khost municipality to pay attention to the roads’ condition and repair them.

Meanwhile, Khost Mayor Eng. Abdul Basir Mohammadzai confirmed most of the roads in Khost city had damaged.

He said a road construction program financed by the Worldinfo-icon Bank would begin in the next four months and it would also cover Khost city.

He said all roads and streams of Khost city would be reconstructed as part of the program.

He said currently reconstruction projects worth 265 million afghanis were underway in Khost city. These projects would facilitate Khost residents once implemented, he concluded.
