Women, children among 15 dead in Kandahar collision

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Fifteen people were killed and 25 others wounded in a traffic accident in southern Kandahar province on Saturday, officials said.

Aziz Ahmad Azizi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the accident took place on the Kabulinfo-icon-Kandahar highway in Hauz-i-Mumad area of Zherai district at around 6am when a bus collided with a Mazda vehicle.

At least 15 people, including six womeninfo-icon and four children, were killed and 25 others wounded in the head-on collision, the official said.

Abdul Bashir Khaksar, police spokesman, confirmed the accident and said the injured were evacuated to the Civil Hospital by police. The injured are said to be in stable condition.

The ill-fated bus belonged to the Ahmad Shah Abdali Transport Company, Khaksar said, adding an investigation was underway. sa/mud
