6 of a family killed as mortar shell hits Helmand home

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A Talibaninfo-icon-fired mortar shell struck a civilian home in the Greshk district of southern Helmand province, killing six members of a family, an official said on Monday.

The district police chief, Mohammad Ismail Khpalwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News the overnight incident killed six people, including womeninfo-icon and children. Six others were wounded.

Mohammad Saleem Rodwal, the district’s administrative chief, confirmed the incident and said the Taliban targeted several security check-posts and used heavy and light weapons.

Separately, the militants detonated a bomb on the Kabulinfo-icon-Kandahar highway. The road was damaged and passengers were inconvenienced, he added.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incidents.
