Pakistanis among 35 rebels killed in Paktia

GARDIZ (Pajhwok): At least 35 Talibaninfo-icon militants including Pakistanis have been killed during Afghan forces operation in southeastern Paktia province.

On the other hand, two policemen killed in a militants attack on a security post in western Farah province.

Rohullah Khlil Oghli, commander of Thunder Military Corps in Paktia, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan security forces launched operation in Gardiz city, the provincial capital and Zurmat district of the province a few days ago.

He said that 35 militants including Pakistanis were so far killed and more than 50 others wounded in the operation.

“The bodies of eight terrorists that laid in the battle ground were brought to Afghan forces base today morning,” he said.

Afghan forces are capable of eliminating all domestic and foreign insurgents and the ongoing operation is a good example, he said.

Taliban did not comment yet on the regard.

However, the group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted that Taliban attacked a police post on Paktia-Zurmat highway on Monday.

He claimed two policemen were killed and two others wounded in the attack.

On the other hand, Paktia officials said new security posts were deployed on Paktia-Zurmat highway for the highway’s security.

According to another report, Taliban militants attacked a security post in Sar-I-Pul Regi area on the outskirts of the capital of Farah province on Monday night.

Dadullah Qanay, a provincial council member, said that the security post was temporary captured by the Taliban and then retaken by Afghan forces.

He said two policemen were killed in the Taliban attack.

But the Taliban say three policemen were killed and a fourth one was wounded.

Two days back, the Taliban killed six policemen in their attack on the same security post.
