3 Uzbekistani fighters killed in Jawzjan clash

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Three Uzbekistani friends of the Afghan Talibaninfo-icon were killed during a clash with police in Khamab district of northern Jawzjan province, an official said Thursday.

The Uzbek nationals fighting alongside Taliban militants were killed after they stormed the district police headquarters on Wednesday night, Jawzjan’s deputy police chief Col. Abdul Hafiz Khashi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said another 10 attackers were wounded in the retaliatory action while the Afghan forces suffered no casualties and the situation was now stable in the area.

Afghan forces in Khamab district had been recently equipped and they would take action for retaking lost areas, he added.

Sakhidad, a resident of the area, said the situation in Khamab was yet to return to normal. He said both the warring sides were alert as the center of Khamab district remained under Taliban’s control.

He said the Afghan forces were stationed one kilometer away from the district center while the Taliban had besieged the police building.

He said fire exchanges between the two sides had been ongoing long, but the police compound came under intense fight on Wednesday night.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the clashes in Khamab district, which fell to the Taliban three days ago. The Afghan forces have so far taken no action to recapture the town.
