Zabul clash leaves 8 policemen killed, 3 wounded

QALAT (Pajhwok): At least eight policemen have been killed during a clash in Nawbahar district of southern Zabul province, officials said Saturday.

Governor’s spokesman, Gul Islam Sial, told Pajhwok Afghan News that dozens of Talibaninfo-icon insurgents stormed three police posts in the district on Friday night.

He said eight policemen were killed and three others wounded in the battle.

Reinforcements later arrived to the area and pushed the Taliban back, Sial added. However, he rejected collapse of security posts to the Taliban.

He said many Taliban fighters also suffered casualties in Afghan forces retaliatory action, but he did not know the exact figures.

A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said 20 policemen suffered casualties Nawbahar clash.
