JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Around seven million square meters of land belonging to the municipality in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, has been grabbed, the city mayor said Sunday.

Talking to reporters here, Jalalabad Mayor Reyadullah Darmal pledged to increase the city’s beauty and remove illegal wood selling and parking areas.

Darmal said they had launched the campaign to retrieve around 12.5 acres grabbed land of the park in the limits of the fifth police district.

He said occupied areas of the park including the intelligence office were being cleared and after completion of the drive these areas would be converted to park.

The new park, he said, would be constructed at a cost of 48 million afghanis on modern pattern.

Darmal said over six million square meters area has been grabbed and efforts to retake it were underway.

He said mostly common people were involved in the land grabs by constructing homes or shops and other business infrastructures.
