QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Six policemen including a battalion commander and eight Talibaninfo-icon insurgents have been killed in a clash in western Badghis province, an official said on Monday.

Jamshid Shahabi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the rebels stormed a security check-post in the Band-i-Sabzak area of Qala-i-Naw, the provincial capital late on Sunday night.

Eight insurgents were killed and 14 others wounded in the ensuing gunbattle, he said, adding battalion commander Abdul Hakim and five policemen were also killed in the two hours clash.

A resident of the area, who did not want to be named, said the check-post was overrun by rebels. Shahabi, however, rejected the claim and said the situation was currently under control.
