Daily clashes drive Muqur families from homes

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Dozens of families have recently fled homes in Muqur district of southern Ghazni province due to daily clashes between Talibaninfo-icon militants and security forces.

Naqeebullah, a resident of Gadakhel locality of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban and security forces daily clashed in their area, with some bullets hitting civilian homes.

He said dozens of families worried over the situation had so far fled homes for other places.

Zabihullah, a resident of Hasti locality of the district, told Pajhwok the war had been ongoing in their area since Ramadaninfo-icon month.

Javed, another resident of the district, said he left his area two months back and arrived in Ghazni city, the provincial capital.

He said: “Muqur was once a peaceful district, but now insecurity there has increased and clashes occur on a daily basis.”

A number of other residents expressed similar views and urged the government to ensure security in their district in order they could return to their homes.

Meanwhile, Abdul Bari Shelgari, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok that the situation in most of Ghazni districts had deteriorated and if essential measures were not taken, the Taliban would capture more areas and it would cause more displacement.

In this regard, Governor Wahidullah Kalimzai said efforts were underway to suppress the Taliban in various areas He also confirmed some families had been displaced to other areas.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the situation in Muqur district.
