KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Zalmay Khalilzad, who was recently appointed as a special adviser for Afghanistaninfo-icon peace talks, has arrived in the United Arab Emirates for the next round of US-Talibaninfo-icon negotiations.

NBC News reported the release of Taliban prisoners and the status of US bases in Afghanistan were among the key issues the insurgents plan to discuss with the US at the meeting.

According to US news organisations, the Taliban are seeking the closure of US bases in Afghanistan and release of hundreds of prisoners for continuing dialogue with the United States.

NBC News quoted a senior Taliban negotiator as saying: “This meeting with the US authorities would either help pave the way for more meaningful talks or stop them forever.”

But other American news organisations say the Afghan government may not accept the request in the absence of a similar concession from the militant movement.
