KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The NATOinfo-icon-led mission has promised comprehensive cooperation with Afghan forces on enforcing their security plan for the October parliamentary elections.

General Andrew Poppas, deputy chief of staff for Resolute Support operations, held out the pledge during a meeting at the Presidential Palace on Saturday.

Resolute Support would provide all available resources to the Afghan security and defence institutions to ensure election security, a statement from the Palace said on Sunday.

President Ashraf Ghani stressed foolproof security for candidates and voters. He warned the elements trying to sabotage the democratic exercise of serious action.

As the government respected people’s votes, the Talibaninfo-icon depended on guns, the president was quoted as saying.

The use of biometric technology by the election commission during the polls would represent a major stride in the electoral process. The closure of election offices was unacceptable, he concluded.
