23 Taliban militants killed in Farah airstrike

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Thirty-three Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed and 16 others wounded during clearing operations by joint security forces in the Khak-i-Safaid district of western Farah province, an official said on Monday.

Muhibullah Muhib, the governor spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the clearing operations were underway in the district over the past three-day.

He said 23 Taliban insurgents were and 16 others wounded in an airstrike by foreign troops in Khaskaba village of the district.

But Abdul Jabar, a resident of the village, told Pajhwok during the airstrike killed five Taliban and eight civilians on Sunday night.

He added the insurgents came under the airstrike while planting landmines. Civilians were also hit, he said.

But the provincial police chief rejected the killing of civilians in the operation.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the incident.
