KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Two Afghan soldiers who went missing over the weekend from a training camp in the United States have been detained, an American daily reported on Wednesday.

The military personnel on a training mission in Massachusetts disappeared on Saturday when they failed to board a flight home.

USA TODAY quoted the Massachusetts National Guard as saying the officers, who went missing on their way to Logan International Airport, had been located.

A Pentagon spokesperson told BBC the Afghans were trying to enter Canada illegally. "We are aware of reports two Afghan soldiers are in the US for training were reported missing.

“Both Afghan soldiers have since been detained by local police while attempting to enter Canada from the United States," Lt. Col. Kone Faulkner was quoted as saying.

Four years back, three senior Afghans officers failed to return to the military base after a shopping trip to a nearby mall. They were later taken into custody at the Canadian border.
