33 Afghan migrants rescued by Turkish coast guard

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Turkish coast guard has saved 33 Afghan migrants from sinking in western Çanakkale province, a media report said on Saturday.

While seeking to reach Greece illegally, the migrants were on a rubber boat that was in danger of sinking, daily Sabah reported.

“One mile off Kadırga Burnu beach, their boat began to take in water amid rough waves affecting entire Aegean Sea,” the newspaper said.

Paying a lot of money to smugglers, migrants board small boats that often sink due to overcrowding. Coast guard patrols have prevented many possible disasters.

Europe countries, a major destination for many Afghans, have failed to reach consensus for a humanitarian response to the migrant influx.
