GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): In nine months, the imported electricity could not be supplied to most parts of Ghazni City, the capital of southern Ghazni province, and residents say they are unable to afford diesel-based electricity anymore.

Wheedullah, a resident of Tawhidabad locality, told Pajhwok Afghan News that despite the passage of nine months, they remained deprived of government supplied electricity.

“We still don’t have government electricity; we still buy one kilowatt of electricity against 50 afghanis,” he said.

Sardar Mohammad, a resident of Arbab area, said they were unable to get electricity. “People are using solar electricity or diesel base electricity,” he added.

According to Sardar, one kilowatt of the government supplied electricity is sold for seven afghanis for public consumption and 16 afghani per kilowatts for commercial consumers.

“People have been suffering, the imported electricity is not supplied to everyone in the city, most of the people use other resources for their need,” he said.

Abdul Matin Qalandari, head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said no proper network existed for distribution of electricity in the city.

“It will be a positive move if all gets government imported electricity and it would put positive impact on the economic situation of the people.”

Da Afghanistaninfo-icon Breshna Shrikat (DABS) head Jan Mohammad Noori said due to lack of resources, they could not supply electricity to some areas.

“It is difficult in the face of shortage of resource to distribute electricity to all parts of Ghazni City,” he said.

Noori said DABS has been working on a plan to distribute electricity to all parts of Ghazni City.

President Ghani during his recent trip to Ghazni province ordered distribution of electricity to all parts of the City.
