JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Twelve security guards and transport unions’ members have been arrested over corruption charges at the Torkham port in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Wednesday.
Governor Hayatullah Hayat who made an inspection trip to the Torkham town, ordered detention of 12 persons for taking money from trucks, Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said four of the detainees belonged to the commissary department and eight members to drivers’ union.
Hayatullah told at a press conference here that corruption had decreased at the Torkham Township, but some measures were needed to fully eradicate the menace.
Meanwhile, the deputy consul general of Afghanistan in Peshawar said Pakistani security officials took money from Afghan drivers from the Torkham border till Peshawar under various names.
He said he had shared the issue with top Pakistani officials and hoped Pakistani officials would take measures.
