14 security forces, 7 Taliban killed in Kunduz offensive

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Fourteen security personnel and seven Talibaninfo-icon have been killed during a clash in the Qala-i-Zal district of northern Kunduz province, officials said on Thursday.

Safdar Ali, the district police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents stormed security check-posts late on Wednesday night.

He said 14 security forces and seven fighters were killed in the ensuing firefight. A dozen security personnel and nine rebels were wounded, the police official added.

Asadullah Sadat, a member of the provincial council, said the Taliban attacked border police checkpoints in the Sarkh Betal locality of the district late on Wednesday night. He claimed 15 policemen were killed and 13 other wounded.

But Ghulam Hazrat Karimi, spokesman for the 20th division of the Pamir Zone, told Pajhwok four border policemen were killed and three others wounded in the fight. Seven Taliban militants were also killed.

Taliban confirmed the clash, with their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claiming that 25 security forces had been and seven others wounded in the Charchob area of the district. He said a fighter was also killed and two others were wounded.
