PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Paktia Panthers clinched a comfortable win over Balkh Legends in their Gulbahar Afghanistaninfo-icon Premier League match at the Sharjah International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday night.

Quite characteristically, Mohammad Shahzad resorted to aggression right from the word go. He smashed 42 runs off 21 deliveries with the help of two sixes and five fours. The wicketkeeper batsman was caught and bowled by Gulbadin Naib.

Ihsanullah chipped in with 47 runs, facing 28 balls and hitting five towering sixes. With a strike rate of almost 168, he also thumped three shots to the fence before being caught by Ravi Bopara off Mirwais Ashraf.

Cameron Delport was the man of the moment for the Panthers, top-scoring with an unbeaten 70, including a maximum and six boundaries. The South African returned to the pavilion with a strike rate of 145.83.

In the day-night match, telecast live by Pakistaninfo-icon’s private TV channel Geo Sportsinfo-icon, Samiullah Shinwari was run out for 25, as Rahmanullah Gurbaz fell to Gulbadin Naib for 15.

Mohammad Nabi, captaining the Balkh Legends, was the highest scorer for his side but his decision to field after winning the toss did not produce the intended outcome.

Nabi contributed 40 runs off only 15 balls at a remarkable strike rate of nearly 267. A stunning catch by Sikandar Raza on the bowling of Ziaur Rahman saw the Balkh skipper losing his wicket at a crucial time.

Chris Gayle, who opened the innings for Balkh, appeared in a punishing mood. However, in a rush of blood, he was clean-bowled by Sri Lankan all-rounder Isuru Udana for 20 off 10 deliveries.

South Africa’s Colin Munro made 23 off 20 balls before being caught by Rahmanullah Gurbaz on Sharafuddin Ashraf’s bowling.

Udana bagged four wickets for 38 runs, giving the Balkh Legends a tough time.  He won the Man of the Match award in recognition of his fiery bowling spell.

Ziaur Rahman finished with three scalps, conceding 34 runs. With the 37-run triumph, the Panthers have four points from three outings.
