JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Civil societyinfo-icon activists in eastern Nangarhar province have criticised delay in the arrival of election-related materials, including biometric system, and said election may not take place in some areas due to insecurity.

Eng. Noor Afzal Musleh, member of the civil society organizing committee, said election-related equipment arrived in the province after much delay and there were problems in the transfer of equipment to some districts due to insecurity.

He demanded that security personnel should get special arrangement for the security of election and transfer of election-related equipment to the polling stations.

Nimatullah Hamdard, another civil society activist, also asked the government to take immediate steps to remove all the challenges looming on the election.

He said security was the most important factor for the conduct of upcoming polls and unfortunately there had been some concern in this regard.

Dr. Ahmad Daud Sediquzada, head of the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon), for Nangarhar said all materials apart from the biometric system, needed for Election Day arrived in the province.

He said the biometric system would also reach the province till Friday.

He said people had registered as a voter in total 394 polling centres in Jalalabad and 22 districts of the province and security officials had assured complete security on the Election Day.

Governor Spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said special arrangements had been put in place for the Election Day and assured no unfortunate incident would happen on the polling day.
