22 dead, 36 injured in blast at Takhar election rally

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): At least 22 people were killed and another 36 wounded in a bomb explosion that hit an election campaign gathering in northern Takhar province, an official said on Sunday.

Deputy police chief Nizamuddin Ghori told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast took place in Rustaq district and resulted from explosives attached to a motorbike.

The blast hit the campaign rally of Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon candidate Nazifa Yousafi Bek.

Sunatullah Timor, the governor’s spokesman, said 22 people were killed and 36 others wounded. An intelligence official was among the dead and four policemen were among the wounded.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack so far, the latest in a serious of violent attacks on election candidates and their supporters.
