50,000 Afghan forces to secure Oct 20 polls: MoI

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Saturday said all necessary election-related materials and documents have been dispatched to provinces and tens of thousands of security forces being deployed secure the Oct 20 parliamentary elections.

MoI spokesman Najibullah Danish told at a press conference here all required election materials had reached all provinces and also from provincial capitals to districts.

According to him, 5000 army and 45,000 police personnel would be deployed for election security tomorrow nationwide.

Danish said each 20 security forces would keep security for one polling station until people cast their votes.

The upcoming Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon elections will be the first in the country being controlled by Afghan forces, Danish said.

He did not share further details but said currently 19 districts were under security threats but security forces were trying to facilitate elections in the districts.
