AIBAK (Pajhwok): Local officials on Wednesday said a key Talibaninfo-icon commander was killed during a clash with security forces in Hazrat Sultan district of central Samangan province.

Munir Rahimi, provincial police chief, said Mullahinfo-icon Taza Gul, the Taliban commander for Hazrat Sultan district, was killed during a clash with Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces in Taikhonak area of the district late Tuesday.

Two ALP members were also killed in the clash, he said.

Security situation in Dara-i-Suf Payeen and Dara-i-Suf Bala districts of Samangan has recently deteriorated.

A day earlier, Taliban fighters killed several police including Samangan’s deputy police chief, Col. Khawani, in Dara-i-Suf Payeen district.
