KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Some voters and election observes in capital Kabul say the biometric system is not functioning in some polling stations.

Samar Gul, the resident of 9th block in Ahmad Shah Baba Township, said in some polling stations the biometric system was not functioning.

“The biometric system in the Abdul Ghafoor Wardak High School has some problem and not functioning properly,” he said.

“Many voters arrived in the polling station, the voting process did not begin at 7:00 am because the biometric system has not worked, many voters returned to their homes,” he said.

Election Observer Ajaml from the Ghulam Mohmmad Farhad High School said due to technical problem the voting process in this polling station began late.

“The biometric system is not working properly even now, the Independent Election Complaint Commission (IECC) complaint forms should have been present here, I am the observer of a candidate, but there is no complaint form to register my complain,” he said.

“The worker took the biometric system back to the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) office, the voters have been waiting for the election process to begin,” he said.

Zabihullah Sadaat, deputy spokesman for the IEC, said the technical problems related to the biometric system in some polling station would be soon resolved.

“We have been in contact with all the polling station in the country, more biometric instruments had been dispatched in the areas where the already existed system has not been functioning,” he said.
