KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Second Vice President Sarwar Danish on Tuesday praised people’s wide participation in the recent Oct 20 Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon elections and urged the Talibaninfo-icon to reach their goals through political competition.

Voting in the Wolesi Jirga elections kicked off on October 20 nation-wide apart from southern Ghazni and Kandahar provinces. Polling in some polling stations was resumed on second day after delays on the first day and around four million people cast their votes for their interested candidates.

Mohammad Sarwar Danish, addressing a gathering marking the Intentional Standards Day in Kabul, said both men and womeninfo-icon voted in great numbers in the Wolesi Jirga polls.

Danish said: "Our people bravely and cleverly went to ballot boxes and acted democratically to determine the fate of their country."

He said another clear message the elections sent was that the Afghans with their free will acted to resolve political issues of the country not through war or violence.

He said if the Taliban wanted to be with their countrymen they should stop the war and reach their aim through political means.

He added the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) and the Independent Election Complaints Commission (IECC) were responsible to address complaints relating to the election process.
