In Kandahar, Haji Abdullah says he votes for change

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Displaced and disabled 65-years-old Haji Abdullah, a resident of southern Kandahar province, says he cast his vote in the Wolesi Jirga elections for change in his country.

 The physically challenged man, who cast his vote at the Malali High School polling station in Kandahar City yesterday, told Pajhwok Afghan News his health condition could not stop him from exercising his right to vote for his favorable candidate.

The parliamentary vote was delayed for a week in Kandahar province after two top security officials were killed and several others wounded in an insider’s attack.

Abdullah said the Afghans were tired of the 40-year-old bloody conflict in their country thus they want change in the situation.

Describing the election process as ‘good’ compared to the past when rigging

Took place, he said the Independent Election Commission (IEC) decreased the scale of rigging with the use biometric technology.

Abdullah said people hoped this time they would introduce their ‘real representatives’ to the Wolesi Jirga or lower house of the Parliament.

“If in some places rigging has taken place, the IEC should double check votes from such polling stations and quarantine suspicious ballots.”

The Kandahar resident said some IEC employees did not know how to use the biometric machines and it was a reason many people’s names were missing from voter lists.
