UAE asked to transfer frozen money of Kabul Bank debtors

UAE asked to transfer frozen money of Kabul Bank debtors

Oct 30, 2018 - 20:40

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghan government has asked the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to transfer frozen money of Kabul Bank debtors in UAE banks to Afghanistaninfo-icon and auction their properties there.

AGO spokesman Jamshid Rasouli, addressing reporters here, said the Kabul Bank case was still being investigated and efforts had been made to arrest those still roaming free.

He said recently the AGO and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) jointly wrote a letter to the UAE government and called for transfer of cash from accounts of Kabul Bank defaulters to Afghanistan and selling their assets.

He said some individuals involved in the Kabul Bank scam had been identified and summoned to the AGO and they had assured clearing their debts.

The Kabul Bank suffered financial crisis in 2011 after $900 million were illegally withdrawn from the bank. The Central Bank then interfered and supported the private bank and changed its name to New Kabul Bank.
