Ongoing clashes displace 1,500 families in Takhar

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Around 1,500 families forced by ongoing fighting in northern Takhar province to displace have been in dire need of assistance, an official said on Sunday.

These families have been displaced from Khwaja Bahodin, Khwaja Ghar, Dashti Kala and Yangi Kala districts due to continued clashes.

Arbab Samiullah, a resident of the Khwaj Bahoddin district bazar, told Pajhwok Afghan News since the Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon elections heavy fighting was underway in the district.

He said due the presence of Talibaninfo-icon in the area people they had been forced to evacuate their residential compounds and displaced to Taloqan city, the provincial capital.

Currently living in tents, he said, the weather became cold in the province and most of the displaced children and womeninfo-icon were had been suffering from illnesses.

Feroz, another displaced person, from Dashti Kala district, said: “Armed clashes forced us to displace and we left behind everything we had, the government provided them with tents, rice and cooking oil.”

A number of other displaced families had expressed similar views and urged the government to help them.

Mohammad Yaseen Labib, director of refugee and repatriation department, told Pajhwok some 1,500 families had been displaced due continued clashes in four districts of the province.

He pledged to provide necessary assistance to the internally displaced families.
