Samangan pistachio yield witnesses 26pc hike this year

AIBAK (Pajhwok): The pistachio yield in northern Samangan province is estimated to have risen 212 tonnes this year, showing an increase of 26 per cent and farmers have earned 265 million afghanis from the business, an official said on Sunday.

Samangan agricultureinfo-icon director, Mohammad Usman, told Pajhwok Afghan News pistachio had been harvested from 32 hectares of land in Aibak, the provincial capital, Hazrat Sultan,  Dara-I-Suf and Firoz Zankhichir districts.

He said the farmers have earned 210 million afghanis last year and 265 million afghanis the ongoing year.

Usman added, per seven kilograms of quality pistachio produced in the province last year accounted for 1,250 afghanis.

Farmers expressed happiness over the increase in the fruits production and the income accruing from it. The revenue could meet their family needs for a year, the growers said.

Zar Gul, a farmer from Shalkatoi village of Aibak, said he collected 35 tonnes of pistachio and earned 44,000 afghanis this year.

Samangan pistachio is exported to India, Pakistaninfo-icon and European countries.
