Election results tampered with in Kunduz polling stations

Election results tampered with in Kunduz polling stations

Nov 06, 2018 - 18:08

KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) employees have tampered with election results in favor of three candidates in the Imaminfo-icon Sahib district of northern Kunduz province, documents show.

The documents, obtained by Pajhwok Afghan News from 17 polling stations in the Imam Sahib district, show the three Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon candidates either bagged no vote in single digit in these 17 polling stations, but later tens of votes were polled in the ballot boxes.

For instance, Hameedullah Hameedi, one of three candidates, got no vote in the 05 polling station, but later 56 votes had been added to him. Another candidate Abdul Ghafoor Qayyuomi also did not get any vote in the 05 polling station, but 91 votes were added to him in the later stage.

Another Wolesi Jirga candidate Syed Parviz Sadaat got two votes in a polling station, but 52 votes have been marked in his name.

Mohammad Ajmal, an observer, said these candidates obtained no votes on the Election Day, but later their results were changed.

Another Wolesi Jirga candidate Mohammad Mansour said the results today were different from those on the Election Day.

Wolesi Jirga candidate from Kunduz Najebullah warned they would not accept the results if transparent votes were not separated from fraudulent votes.

Hameedi said: “I don’t have any information regarding what happened to the results.”

Two more candidates Abdul Ghafoor Qayyoumi and Parviz Sadaat refused to comment on the issue.

Abdul Ghafoor Qayoumi, IEC head for Kunduz, confirmed to Pajhwok that the results of ballot boxes in Imam Sahib district had been tampered with.

“We have held a meeting with the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) and it has been agreed upon that ballot boxes should be rechecked,” he said.

Umar said individuals who altered the results would be referred to the judiciary.
