KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) appreciated the move of any country that supports Afghanistaninfo-icon in establishing peace, a statement from the MoFA said on Saturday.

The Russia summit on Afghan reconciliation process kicked off on Friday in Moscow in which delegations from HPC, representing the Afghan government, the Talibaninfo-icon delegation and representatives from Iran, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, China, Pakistaninfo-icon, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the US participated.

According to the statement, the Moscow meeting is not a follow up of the previous meetings (Moscow Format) held among sovereign states.

Based on the principles and decisions of the Tashkent meeting and the Kabul Process, the Afghan government and Taliban must directly sit around the negotiation table.

The Afghan government emphasized on peace process based on the accepted principles on Kabul and Tashkent summits which were accordance with national and international consensus and thus the government had not sent any representative to the sent, the statement added.

The High Peace Councilinfo-icon (HPC) participated in the meeting hosted by the Russia, as a national but non-government institution, with a view to discuss the dynamic and details of initiating direct talks.

As per the agreement between Afghanistan and Russia and that the Taliban would not be allowed to make instrumental use of the summit in their interest.
