Nov 10, 2018 - 20:02

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The district councils, presidential and Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon elections in southern Ghazni province may jointly be conducted on April 20, 2019, the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) said on Saturday.

IEC head Abdul Badai, Sayyad told reporters here the conduct of presidential election on April 20, 2019, was imminent.

He recalled arrangement of elections needed security and funds which the government and international community had assured they would provide and hoped all problems would be resolved and the elections are held on schedule.

Referring to provincial council, district councils, and Ghazni Wolesi Jirga polls, he said discussions were underway on the timetable of these elections.

Sayyad said all votes of Kabul province were being inspected and recounted based on existing issues.

IEC Commissioner Abdul Qadir Quraish said: “The conduct of presidential elections is confirmed on April 20, next year but technical issues need time.”

In addition, he said, the conduct of district, provincial councils and Ghazni Wolesi Jirga polls on the same date was being discussed and a complete election schedule would be announced in three days.

Meanwhile, Syed Hafeezullah Hashami resigned as secretary and spokesman of the IEC but pledged to continue working as commissioner.

Sayyad meanwhile hailed services of Hashimi and said he has not formally resigned.
