Ghazni, Farah, Ghor IDPs to receive aid soon: CEO

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Monday said addressing problems of the internally displaced people (IDP) was a priority of the government, stressing the war-affected people would be assisted soon.

Abdullah, talking to an extraordinary meeting of the Emergency Committee here, said most of the government’s focus was on dealing with problems of the IDPs in Malistan and Jaghori districts of Ghazni province and Charsada and Pasaband districts of Ghorinfo-icon province.

He said the USAIDinfo-icon had donated $36 million in emergency aid to the displaced people and the ministries of disasters management and refugee and repatriation should coordinate for obtaining the aid.

Najib Aqa Fahim, State Minister for Natural Disaster Management, told the meeting that three million afghanis set aside for assistance of the IDPs would soon be distributed to the affected people in Ghazni.

Ten million afghanis aid for IDPs in Ghazni and other provinces has been promised by the CEO, but the aid is still not received by his ministry, he said.

Fahim added intelligence forces distributed some relief items to displaced people in Malistan and Jaghori districts.

International organizations also promised to donate $21 million for the displaced people and UNHCR has promised distributing 16,000 tents to IDPs, he said.

Mujib Rahman Karimi, rural rehabilitation and development minister, said that his ministry distributed some tents, blankets, shawls and footwear to the displaced people.

At the end, the CEO ordered the ministries of natural disasters management and transport to prioritize transferring and distributing food and other items to the displaced people in Ghazni, Farah, Ghor and Sar-i-Pul provinces.
