49 irrigation projects worth 138m afs completed in Herat
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Bringing under irrigation about 49000 hectors of land, nearly 50 projects have been executed and put into service in western Herat province, an official said on Wednesday.
The projects worth 138 million afghanis included construction of irrigation canals, watergates and retaining walls, Mohammad Sarwari, director of the Harirod-Marghab river authority, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the projects were implemented in 30 villages of Pashton Zarghon district in two years with financial support from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
According to him, another project of a watergate and an irrigation canal was underway and would be completed at the end of the ongoing year at a cost of 273 million afghanis in the same district.
Meanwhile, residents of the district expressed their happiness over completion of the projects and hoped the under construction project work would also be completed in the stipulated time.
