Threats, conspiracies outplay resources, MPs told

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Defense Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami on Wednesday said security threats and conspiracies had reached a higher level while the country lacked enough resources to deal with them.

Bahrami, Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak and Intelligence Chief Masum Stanikzai appeared before today’s session of the lower house to brief the lawmakers about the ongoing security situation of the country.

Worsening security situation, delays in sending security reinforcements to push insurgents attacks back and poor conflict managers in security organs were topics the MPs wanted to be briefed on.

Defense Minister Bahrami said security situation was not good but the Afghan forces were not silent about it even for a minute.

He said Jaghori, Malistan, Qarabagh and Andar districts of Ghazni, Chaharsada district of Ghorinfo-icon, Bala Bolok and Pushtibkoh districts of Farah, Khas Uruzgan district of Uruzgan province and parts of Baghlan, Kunduz, Takhar and Faryab were under high threats and Afghan forces had launched operations for reducing the threats.

“Considering the current security situation and resources, the threats and conspiracies are very high, the resources we have now are not enough for dealing with these threats,” he said.

However, he said Afghan forces used professionally resources they had to thwart threats.

“The security situation right now is not good in Malistan and Jaghori districts of Ghazni, Chaharsada district of Ghor and Sayedabad district of Maidan Wardak, but our forces are deployed there for defeating the insurgents ,”Bahrami said.

About the remains of the victims of a helicopter crash in Farah province, he said the bodies of some of the victims including the deputy commander of 207th Zafar Military Corps had not been obtained so far, but military efforts were underway to deliver the deceased to their families.

Interior minister Wais Ahmad Barmak said that the conflict in Ghazni province was not on ethnicity, but the Talibaninfo-icon wanted to create distance between the people and the government.

He also said though threats had increased in some parts of the country but plans for hitting insurgents there had also been prepared.

Without going into details, Barmak said police forces despite facing some shortages regarding equipment defeated the enemies of Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon speaker, Abdul Raouf Ibrahimi, said, “We cannot continue this meeting due to sensitive security situation, we also have our own words and we will share them with security officials in next Sunday meeting.”
