‘Daesh-Khorasan spokesman’ killed in Nangarhar raid

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A Daesh or so-called Islamic State (IS) spokesman has been killed during an operation in the Haska Mena district of eastern Nangarhar province, the Afghan military said on Sunday.

The alleged IS-Khorasan region spokesperson identified as Sharafat Shafiq was killed during a joint security operation in the district, the Afghan National Army’s 201stSelab Military Corps said in a statement.

It said Shafiq was playing an important role in finding recruits and spreading the group’s propaganda throughout Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Another two Daesh affiliates were also killed in an airstrike in the same district, the military statement said.

In a separate statement, the corps said six Talibaninfo-icon insurgents were killed and three others wounded as a result of an airstrike in Tagab district of central Kapisa province.

Another two rebels were wounded in a separate airstrike in the Nijrab district of Kapisa.

A Taliban commander has been shot dead by unknown gunmen inside his house in Kaseen area of the Nijrab district, the statement concluded.

Elsewhere in Nangarhar, a bomb blast destroyed a mosqueinfo-icon and killed the prayer leader in Momand Dara district, said Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman.

However, the Taliban and Daesh have not yet commented regarding these incidents in Nangarhar and Kapisa provinces.
